Originated in China, guardian lions are believed to have magical properties and the power to repel evil spirits. A pair traditionally stand guard outside the gates of Japanese Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. This lion was carved out of granite stone.

I was born and raised in Japan. I don't know if it's clear but I hope the unique sensibility that was nurtured there shows in my creations. My favorite medium is acrylic on canvas, and my subjects come from my surroundings, including still lifes, landscapes, and pets. I live with my husband in Seattle.
